THE CREATIVE MIND BEHIND YAL-ART!

Updated: Jul 8, 2021

Hey beautiful people,

My name is Bertha, the creative brain behind the awarding winning brand Yal-Art.

This is my first official blog to introduce myself to you my community.

About Me.

I was born in the Northern part of Ghana called Nalerigu; where I was raised by my grandparents. I have lived in the UK for the best part of 34 years and have been making yearly trips back home since 2012. The Year 2014, was a pivotal year because a trip that should have been a month long turned into 3 years in sunny Ghana. What?? I hear you say, Yeah, I know, I guess it happens sometimes. I loved every minute of it, or did I? Alright, for the most part. It's a long story so I'm gonna have to share that one another time but the experience was truly life changing and I am more informed and equipped about the things of Ghana because of it.

BLACK WOMEN IN BUSINESS AWARD!

In 2018 I started a creative business as a self-taught upcycling artist, creating art with African fabric. In 2019 I was fortunate to be nominated for an award in the category of Business Start-Up of The Year, for Black Women in Business and I won. As an owner of an award-winning luxury bespoke brand, it's my aim to produce art that speaks of excellence, heritage and my culture. You might notice that there are several themes that run across my work. One is of love and the other is Africa. My art is intrinsically linked to my cultural identity and you will see that as an overarching theme that runs across every piece of work I produce.

Thank you for joining me on this journey so far, I look forward to sharing more with you. Join my community so that you can be kept up to date with everything concerning Yal Art markets and Pop-Up events across the UK.
